Supervisor: Dr. Nathalie Goodkin, Assistant Prof., Department of Earth Sciences, University of Hong Kong

Applications are invited for a Ph.D. Studentship (3-4 years) or a M.Phil. (2 years) and in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Hong Kong. The work is in the field of coral geochemistry and can focus either on reconstructing storm and climate histories or pollution history within the South China Sea. Several methodologies will be applied including, trace element, trace metal and stable isotope measurements from coral skeleton. Strong mathematical skills and a familiarity with chemical laboratory processes are required. A willingness to go into the field including partaking in SCUBA diving for coral collection is suggested. Applicants should hold a B.Sc. degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Geology, Geochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline and should be highly motivated.

Further details may be obtained from Dr. Nathalie Goodkin, Department of Earth Sciences, Pokfulam Road, University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, (Tel +852 2219 4816, email goodkin@hku.hk) to whom a letter of application and a cv should be sent so as to reach her no later than 31 December 2008.
