How is global climate change affecting Hong Kong? How has Hong Kong’s development over the past century affected our local climate? What may the future bring and what can we do about it? In this talk, I will highlight the latest synthesis on the science of global climate change and explain what that means for Hong Kong. I will describe our latest research on how urban heat in Hong Kong is not a new phenomenon, but is nearly as old as the city itself. I will discuss the present state and future of wildfire in our territory. I will conclude with some insight into what we can do to avoid dangerous climate change, locally, regionally, and globally.
