Topic A:

Paleozoic tectonic evolution of the Alxa Terrane, Western Inner Mongolia: New constraints on the final closure of the Paleo-Asian Ocean

As a key issue in reconstruction of the Pangea supercontinent, the consumption and closure of the Paleo-Asian Ocean have been hotly debated. Located between the Chinese Tianshan suture and Solonker suture, the Alxa Terrane is a key area in the southern Central Tianshan Orogenic Belt but received less attention. We focus on the petrography, geochemistry and geochronology of Paleozoic igneous and sedimentary rocks in the Alxa Terrane to reveal where, when and how the Paleo-Asian Ocean closed.

Topic B

Origin and tectonic setting of the Paleozoic Dajiangping pyrite deposit, Guangdong province, South China

The Dajiangping pyrite deposit, on the north margin of the Yunkai terrane, South China Block, is a super-large SEDEX type pyrite deposit that was overprinted by secondary hydrothermal activity. The mineralization mechanism of this deposit has been hotly debated and the tectonic setting of mineralization is still unclear. We aim to constrain the mineralization age by the multiple dating methods and reveal the tectonic setting of mineralization. We also study the origin and mineralization process of this deposit by some advanced techniques, e.g. in-situ sulfur isotope analyses.
