Daniel E. Harlov currently works for the Deutsches GeoForschungsZentrum (GFZ) in Potsdam, Germany. He has authored or coauthored more than 160 papers on the geology, mineralogy and geochemistry of various deposits and rocks, and is a recognized expert on experimental modeling of REE mobilization under metasomatic processes. His career focused on Kiruna-type magnetite-apatite ore deposits and other IOCG deposits, experimental equilbria and metasomatic alteration of zircon, garnet and REE-bearing minerals including apatite, monazite, xenotime, and allanite, and the role of fluids and melts during high grade metamorphism. He served as Fellow of the American Mineralogical Society, and associate editors of several international journals including American Mineralogist and Lithos.
