DES UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT WON THIRD PRIZE IN THE HKU RESEARCH COLLOQUIUM FOR SCIENCE UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

2024.05.14

The Research Colloquium for Science Undergraduate Students is an annual event organised by the Faculty of Science, aiming at providing a platform for selected Science undergraduate students taking project or directed studies courses to share their research findings with others, and to gain experience in communicating scientific knowledge in a professional setting. The Research Colloquium comprises two parts: poster presentations and oral (PowerPoint) presentations. In the poster presentations, the students will present their research findings and answer questions from audience regarding their research projects. Projects are categorised into groups of “Quantitative Reasoning”, “The Physical World”, and “Life & Living” based on the field of research. The best two/three presenters in each group will be selected to give a 10-minute PowerPoint presentation, and the best three PowerPoint presentations will be awarded prizes.

Terence Leung (Year-4 student at DES) participated in the Research Colloquium this year with his final year project, supervised by Prof. LI Weiran, on petrological investigation of eruption dynamics at Erebus volcano, Antarctica. Among the 31 participants this year, Terence’s poster presentation was selected as the best two in the “The Physical World” group to be able to participate in the final round PowerPoint presentations, where he won third prize.

Congratulations Terence!
