Direct Fossil Evidence
Direct fossil evidence for the existence of early photosynthetic bacteria was found in sedimentary rocks formed just 300 million years later, the Apex Cherts in Australia. They reveal individual cells held together to form long filaments that look like beads on a string, resembling modern cyanobacteria.
