Brachiopoda
During the Devonian Period the articulate brachiopods underwent an evolutionary radiation. This period represented the peak diversity for the spiriferid brachiopods that produced shells with a variety of elongated hinges. At the same time new groups like the mostly free-living strophomenids and the terebratulids appeared. Conversely, there was a general decline of pentamerids and atrypid brachiopods. |
