4. Since 35 million years ago - Asian Extrusion

As India continued to move northwards into Asia the Himalayan mountain belt rose further and affected atmospheric circulation causing global climate to change from “greenhouse” to “icehouse” conditions.

As the collision continues other continental blocks to the east can be easily “extruded” sideways along major strike-slip faults to accommodate a majority of the convergence. This “Asian Extrusion” hypothesis may even explain the opening of the South China Sea.
