6. At present - Asian Monsoon
Today India continues to indent Asia as it moves further north resulting in continuous thrusting along major fault zones making this area seismically active with catastrophic earthquakes from time to time.
The elevation of the Himalayan and Tibetan Plateau to an average height of 5 km above sea level has transformed the region‟s climate. It has led to an enhanced contrast of sea-continent temperatures that dominates our present regional weather pattern being responsible for the intensification of the annual “Asian Monsoon” with its regular torrential rains.
