Topic A) Using finite element method to model the Earth deformation induced by Glacial Isostatic Adjustment
Glacial Isostatic Adjustment (GIA) is refered to as the process of how the Earth responds to the changing surface load(e.g. the ice load and water load). It affects the relative sea level, crustal deformation, the rotation of the Earth, etc. We used finite element method to model the deformation induced by GIA for both incompressible and compressible viscoelastic Earth models with linear rheology. Progress will be discussed in the talk.
Topic B) Application of luminescence dating on the Chinese Loess Plateau
Chinese Loess Plateau is a perfect archive for the past climate reconstruction. In this study, we prove that the quartz OSL sensitivity is another effective climate indicator. Astronomic chronology of the loess has been questioned as the loess accumulation may not be continuous. With the newly developed OSL dating technique, we try to date the loess from Luochuan section directly. The absolute age constraints would allow people to build more robust climate change theories.
