AN EDITOR’S PERSPECTIVE ON SCIENTIFIC PUBLISHING
Seminars
Rebecca is a Senior Editor at Nature Communications and will talk through the publication process within the Nature Portfolio Journals. The talk will start with an introduction to different journals, the editorial and peer review process, and include some tips on how to work with editors and reviewers.
The hope is that you will leave this session with a greater understanding of the publication process, so questions and discussion are encouraged.
A love of mountains and an early curiosity for how the world works led Rebecca to a Master’s degree in Earth Science from the University of Oxford and a PhD in Geology and Geochemistry from the University of Iceland. In her research, Rebecca used isotope geochemistry to better understand processes that ranged from chemical weathering and biological metal uptake, through to geothermal cycling and ore formation.
Rebecca joined Nature Geoscience as an Editor in 2017 and was initially based in Shanghai before relocating the London office in 2022 and joining Nature Communications. She oversees the peer review and publication of geoscience research, with particular interests in the first 4 billion years of Earth’s history, deep Earth processes, and the transition away from fossil-fuel reliant systems. Knowing that climate risks disproportionately affect the poorest regions and marginalized people [a], and recognizing that the geosciences are the least diverse discipline in STEM [b], Rebecca is committed to understanding, challenging, and dismantling barriers to participation in the geosciences.
