The Department is delighted to proud to announce that Professor Louis Wong and his postdoctoral fellow Dr. Zhaonan Wang have been awarded the prestigious ARMA Case History Award for 2026. The award recognizes their outstanding paper titled "Simulation of Fire-Induced Spalling and Damage Behaviors in Granite Rock Caverns in Hong Kong Using Thermo-Mechanical Coupling Phase Field Method," published in Engineering Geology (Volume 352, 2026, Article 108053).

The ARMA Case History Award, presented annually by the American Rock Mechanics Association (ARMA), honors a practical contribution from rock mechanics professionals in industry who apply sound rock mechanics and rock engineering principles toward the solution of a specific engineering problem. ARMA is a professional and international engineering and scientific society, which promotes interaction among specialists, practitioners, scholars, and educators in rock mechanics and geomechanics.
The award was presented during the 60th US Rock Mechanics/Geomechanics Symposium held in Tucson, Arizona, USA, from June 21 to 24, 2026.
